Is it possible to fill in the energy conservation information requirement yourself?
Absolutely!

You know: Companies that consume more than 50,000 kWh of electricity or 25,000 m³ of gas annually are required to comply with the energy conservation information requirement. If you are considering taking on this responsibility yourself, read on.

Many companies are unsure whether to handle the registration for the energy conservation information requirement themselves or outsource it to an outside party. This process is time consuming; completing it can sometimes take 10 – 20 hours and are often technical in nature.

By comparison, filling out an average Energy Conservation Information Obligation application takes as much time as a plane ride to Curacao, 10 hours. At the same time, you can also enjoy a James Bond movie marathon, with titles such as Casino Royale, Skyfall, Spectre, GoldenEye, The Spy Who Loved Me, Goldfinger, The World Is Not Enough, Quantum of Solace, Die Another Day, together accounting for about 20 hours of movie fun.”

Have you arranged for E-recognition?
Then you can start applying for the energy conservation information requirement. You can log in to the RFO’s site for this purpose.
In My Applications, you can choose Energy Conservation Information Obligation (Environmental Management Act).
Then carefully read the introduction and fill in your details.

Handy to keep on hand:

* Chamber of Commerce number
* Branch number
* Annual consumption of both gas and electricity

After you enter your company information, you must choose an industry. Be careful to choose the right industry. This is important for the continuation of the duty to inform. You can find the appropriate industry in the EML listings.
Then you will get the measures of the chosen industry. On average, these are more than 50 questions.

To apply for the Energy Conservation Information Obligation, eRecognition is required. This functions as a business equivalent of DigiD and is provided by the Netherlands Enterprise Agency (RVO).

You can apply for eRecognition from an approved vendor designated by the Internal Revenue Service.

Please note that applying for eRecognition takes an average of three business days. An urgent request, processed within 24 hours, is possible but incurs additional costs.

When completing, pay close attention to preconditions (both economic and technical) and baseline conditions. You can find these by clicking on the “more information” button.

Each measure additionally indicates whether it can be taken at an independent or natural moment.

An “Independent Moment” means that a measure is profitable at any time. This means that implementation of this measure must take place within a year to be profitable.

A “Natural Moment,” on the other hand, indicates a measure that is primarily profitable during a renovation or remodeling project. This means that you can wait to implement this measure until you have plans for a renovation or remodeling project, provided it takes place within five years.

After you think you have answered all the questions correctly, it is time to check your report. Make sure you haven’t missed any measures and check all your data carefully. Then click “Check and Submit. With this action, you confirm that your answers are truthful and authorize the RFO to use your data for the follow-up of the information requirement.

You will then receive a confirmation from the RFO, including an IP number. This number serves as a correspondence number for any questions you might later want to ask the RFO.
